A non-competitive adventure where solidarity, fun, and camaraderie go hand in hand from start to finish. The goal is to enjoy, help, and share unique experiences with all the teammates who make up the great VWGC family. In addition, it is a zero-emissions event, as VW Golf Challenge plants trees through the NGO Tree-Nation to offset the carbon footprint generated by the event itself.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Limited, and every year we sell out. To secure your spot, you must register through our website and make an initial payment of 500 \u20ac. This pre-registration fee is non-refundable unless a replacement team is provided at least 90 days before the event.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ferries, hotels, camps, dinner and breakfast, challenges, surprises, travel insurance, and official stickers.
The stickers will be handed out on the first day of the adventure at the Port of Algeciras.<\/p>

With the registration, we will also provide you with a GPS tracking device so the organization can follow your position in real time throughout the adventure. (This device must be returned on Friday night at the final event dinner.)<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On the starting Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at the Port of Algeciras, unless changes are communicated to participants.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The following Saturday, with an open ferry ticket that allows you to take the ferry that suits you best.<\/p>

\n\tHow does the solidarity aspect work?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

Each team must bring at least 15 kg of solidarity supplies: notebooks, pencils, clothes, toys. These are distributed widely in the poorest areas we cross during the adventure. A broad and direct action.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat preparation does my car need?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

Mandatory:<\/p>

Skid plate and fuel pump protection. Two extra spare wheels (not space-saver tires). It is highly recommended to raise the car slightly.\u00a0You must also bring a tow strap, a shovel, sand recovery boards, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tAre there technical restrictions when preparing the car?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

No. You can prepare it as much as you want, without limits. The adventure is designed to be completed with a stock Golf, but we recommend lifting it slightly and bringing two off-road tires (snow tires also work). We\u2019ve had everything from lightly prepared cars to pseudo-WRC mk2 builds.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat is the best engine option?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

Any Volkswagen engine is suitable, but it\u2019s a matter of preference: 1.6 CL: perfect, light, and fuel-efficient. 1.8 GTI: great fun on tracks and roads, but the extra weight penalizes you a bit in sand. VR6: amazing sound and driving experience, as long as you don\u2019t mind spending a fortune on fuel. 1.6 GTD: you\u2019ll make it, but uphill sections will be tough due to lack of power. 1.9 TDI: kings of Morocco. It all depends on how much fuel you want to spend and how much you like to push the throttle.<\/div><\/div>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat equipment do I need to bring for the car?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

First aid kit, fire extinguisher, basic tools including duct tape and zip ties. Again, mandatory in every car:<\/p>

tow strap, skid plate, two full-size spare wheels, shovels and sand recovery boards (plastic boards are acceptable), first aid kit and fire extinguisher.<\/p>

Recommendations:<\/p>

All kinds of hoses, fuel pump, ignition coil.<\/p>

Remember, it is mandatory to arrive with the car thoroughly checked, especially the suspension.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat percentage of track and road is there?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

There is more road, but 100 km of good road is not the same as 50 km of track or 10 km of sand. Don\u2019t worry\u2014you\u2019ll experience everything, and you\u2019ll still have time to get stuck in the sand or drive through a river.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat happens if my car breaks down?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

The VW Golf Challenge spirit means fellow participants will stop to help, but remember there is no official assistance. Breaking down is part of the adventure. There are many Golfs on Moroccan roads, and in any town they can fix almost anything. You may miss a stage and rejoin the group later\u2014that\u2019s adventure. Otherwise, it would be an all-inclusive resort week.<\/p>

For your peace of mind, all cars from all editions have returned from Morocco. However, if you break down on a track where towing is impossible (for example, at the start of a bridge), recovery by local 4\u00d74 vehicles can be expensive\u2014up to \u20ac500. So be careful not to destroy the car.<\/p>

In any case, local mechanics usually accompany us on the route and can get you out of trouble. The cost of their work is paid by each participant.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat documents do I need to bring?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

To enter Morocco (as in Tunisia), you need a valid passport<\/strong> (EU members; others should check), valid for at least 3 months after entry<\/strong>. When taking the ferry from Algeciras to Tangier Med, take your passport with you\u2014do not leave it in the car. Passport control is done on the ferry. Vehicle entry procedures are completed at the port upon arrival.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tAnd for the car?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

Vehicle registration document and circulation permit, plus insurance valid for Morocco with the corresponding Green Card.<\/p>

If the car is not in your name, you also need a signed authorization from the owner, along with a copy of their ID or passport. When passing Moroccan customs, the police will give you a small white paper with your license plate number. DO NOT LOSE IT, as you will need it to take the car out of the country. Keep it with the vehicle documents throughout the trip.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tShould I decorate my car?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

Of course! It\u2019s more fun\u2014and if you don\u2019t, the other participants will traditionally take care of covering it in stickers. We promise you\u2019ll regret not decorating it yourself.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat will the weather be like in Morocco?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

Hot days, and possibly some cold ones. In some editions we\u2019ve gone from short sleeves to a winter jacket overnight. Bring clothing for all temperatures, but comfortable. A sleeping bag or blanket is also recommended, especially since the night in Imilchil<\/strong> can be quite cold. In the desert, it can get very hot. Always carry water in the car and stay hydrated!<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhere will we sleep?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

In specially selected hotels, camps, and riads. You must bring a sleeping bag (and a blanket if you want) for the camp night. Everyone will have access to a haima with a mattress.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Breakfasts and dinners are included on hotel nights. Lunches are free. We recommend bringing cured meats and cheese (beer goes without saying) for picnic days and nights. Bread, meat, and drinks can be bought locally. If you drink alcohol, remember it\u2019s not sold in Morocco\u2014bring it from home.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tWhat is the Moroccan currency?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

The dirham. 10 dirhams = \u20ac1. It\u2019s best to exchange money once you arrive in Morocco, as the rate is better.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Between \u20ac200 and \u20ac500 on fuel (depending on whether you drive a 1.6 or a 2.9 VR6), plus around \u20ac200 on food. It\u2019s very important to always carry extra money (around \u20ac1,000 in cash) or a credit card to cover unexpected expenses (such as mechanical issues\u2014or buying rugs for your mother-in-law). Almost no one ends up using that extra money, but it\u2019s better to have it and not need it.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tHow will I navigate the route?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

We\u2019ll give you a route dossier, which together with a Michelin map (you must purchase one) will guide you. Most importantly, we\u2019ll provide the route as GPS tracks in *.gpx, *.gdb, and *.kml formats for Garmin GPS units or smartphones. We recommend GPX Viewer, which allows offline map and track navigation. There\u2019s a free version and a premium version costing about \u20ac6. Make sure you know how to use your app before starting the adventure.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tHow will the solidarity action be carried out?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

The organization will recommend which stages and areas are best for distributing your solidarity supplies, and will also indicate specific schools or associations where you can stop.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sleeping bag, pillowcase, swimsuit, and towel. And very important: a costume and water guns. We recommend bringing a GPS-enabled tablet to follow the tracks\u2014it\u2019s more practical than a phone, though not strictly necessary.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

There are two official WhatsApp groups. An official communications group where only VWGC can post. At least one team member must be in this group. A participant chat group for general conversation. Only confirmed participants who have made the first payment are added to these groups.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n\tHow do I get internet in Morocco?<\/span>\n\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/g><\/svg>\t\t<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h3>\n

You can buy a data eSIM from your home country (highly recommended) or buy a local SIM once in Morocco. In any case, having internet during the adventure is essential.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
